April 2010 - Red/Black

Taegeuk Chil Jang represents the "Gan", which symbolizes the mountain meaning great weight and firmness. This poomse represents stability and the knowledge of where and when to stop. This poomse has 25 movements.

I had good strong moves, and concentration. Miss Palmer was proud.

Next stop- Candidate belt!  Woo Hoo!

June 2010-  "Candidate" belt

This is my last test for now.  I passed with flying colors.

This is where my journey gets put on hold for a while.   My Mom had another baby, welcome little Cameryn 7/7/2010.  I go into 4th grade and my schedule is too full for all my activities, so its time to pare back.   If all goes well in 4th, I may return Summer 2011 to get back into the grove and go for my blackbelt.

December 2009 - Red/White

Taeguek Oh Jang represents the Seon which symbolizes the wind meaning both mighty force and calmness, this poomse has 20 movements.

This belt was a makeup test during normal class as I was unable to attend the belt test.  I did however pass and get my red/white by the end of the year.

February 2010-  Full Red

Taegeuk Yook Jang symbolizes the "Kam", one of the 8 divination signs, which represents water, meaning incessant flow and softness, this poomse has 23 movements.

This test was a split test, with the younger kids testing later.   I was focused and was one of the best examples in the room of true Black Belt attitude.   A few more months and that black belt is mine!

August 2009 - Full Blue!

Taegeuk Pal-Jang - Represents the "Gon" which symbolizes Earth.  It means the root and settlement, also the beginning and the end.  This poomsee has 27 movements.

The form was hard, and we had to prove that we had all the movements memorized, which I did.  Next test will be the same form with emphasis on not just learning it, but also doing it with a black belt attitude,

This August I went to my first tournament!  I forgot my belt, and luckily could buy a new one there, thank goodness.   I did well in my form and held my own with the other 8 year old girls, however I placed 5th.   Next time I will be more prepared.   I did get my esprit de corps patch for going to the tournament though.   Only 7 more to go.

October 2009 - Blue/Red

Again - Taegeuk Pal-Jang - Represents the "Gon" which symbolizes Earth.  It means the root and settlement, also the beginning and the end.  This poomsee has 27 movements.   This form will be judged on strength and accuracy this time around.

My concentration, and strength were at new heights this time.  I did well, and was proud.

April 2009 - Green/Blue

Our form this time was Taeguek-Yi-jang. This firm represent the "Tae" which means strength of mind  This poomse has 18 movements.   All my parents were there watching, and I was a star, if I do say so myself.   I got my second patch, physical fitness.   I flew right through all those tests, and found my stride in the long distance running.

Physical Fitness Patch!!

June 2009 - Blue/White

Our form this time is Taeguek-Sam Jang. This firm represent the "Ra" which means sun, fire and light. This poomse has 20 movements.

I am working on my black belt patches, and added a Creativity patch this month with the sculpture in the pictures below.  Candice helped with the hot glue, but I did all the rest myself, and yes I AM proud.

December 2008 - Green/White

Testing at the end of this year is getting harder and harder.  This test was difficult, but the audience, including John K, GG and Kylie and Makenna cheered me on.   I passed for my belt, but ended up not getting the belt as they ran out.  Ms Palmer gave me the new belt at a later date and commented on how I handled the situation like a true black belt.

February 2009 - Green Belt

Due to a week long battle with a nasty cold and some cold induced asthma, I did not test.  with the group.  I did test after class in March and passed with flying colors.

I also received my first in the series of black belt patches this month.  I received the Dedication patch, for coming to more than 100 classes.

August 2008 - Yellow Belt

)

With this belt, we got our first test that included our own part in the demonstration before belt testing, free sparring, awards for our families and also board breaking.  Our form was the Taegeuk Sah-Jang, this form has 20 movements.    Michele thought she failed her test, and I used my sense of compassion to make her feel a bit better as we were watching the rest of the students.  (My parents said they were proud for me doing that, and heck, I was just helping my sister.)

October 2008 -  Yellow/Green

This belt test was the Do-San form.  This form is the pseudonym of the patriot Ahn Chang Ho (1876-1938).  The 24 movements represent his entire life which he devoted to furthering the education of Korea and it's independence movement.  I faltered a bit in the middle and got a little lost, but recovered fine and passed my test.   I also got to do some free sparring and board breaking, and trust me that board had NO chance!   Mater Robinson himself was there for the testing, and handing out of belts.  It was a good day.

April 2008 - White/Yellow Belt

This test I had to do alone, as Michele was home with the stomach flu.  However I did "SUPER AWESOME MA'AM!!"  (You'd have to be there to get that one...so... get yourself to one of my belt testings ok?)

June 2008 - Yellow/White Belt

Getting to the Yellow/White has been a challenge.  In this test, the video shows just a little of what we had to do.  The form was three "sparring combinations" and three "one steps".  Not to mention the counting and knowing appropriate words from Korean.

December 2007 - Brown/Red Belt

This is the last of the "little dragons" forms, and now the practicing for the first of the black belt path forms start.   From here on out, its not just forms but knowledge and vocabulary as well.
